Gigs from now and into the new year
Ian on 12/08/2008 at 12:24am (UTC)
As you may have seen from the gigs page I have had a few Saturday evening gigs at the Royal Oak Edinburgh, these have been pretty good fun so far and I have had a few other musicians joining in. I am only booked for these up until xmas but I am hoping that I can convince May and Heather, who run the Oak, to continue these into the New year. Fingers crossed!!

I had a gig last Saturday night in The Grey Horse Inn Balerno and it was pretty successful albeit a small audience. I have been asked back with a view to having a regular spot there (probably monthly), dates to be confirmed.

I will be touting for some 2009 gigs over the coming weeks.

If anyone out there can help or advise any good places to try please drop me a message.

Cheers
Ian

What a quick year
Ian on 12/03/2008 at 12:45am (UTC)
Well we are coming close to the end of 2008 and it has passed by very quickly. I look back on this year with both affection and sadness.

Affection for the great time me and Jackie had on our travels in Germany Spain and Holland.

Sadness for being let down in Spain and having to leave to come back home, not that I don't like Edinburgh but I would rather our adventures had lasted longer.

As you will see from the Gigs pages I have some sessions before Xmas which should be fun and hopefully lead on to some more for the new year.

I am trying hard to find a job at the moment but things are pretty hard out there at the moment however hoping the perciverance will pay off.

Still singing and still happy

Things are so very quiet on the music front
Ian on 11/04/2008 at 12:25am (UTC)
Well folks not much to report on this entry as things have been pretty quiet, partly due to trying to get settled back into the flat and finding work (that's real work not the gigging type).
I have played a few times at the Oak and it has been pretty good although it has been hard getting back into the long gigs after getting used to only playing a max of 2 hours in Germany/Spain.
Hoping to start getting some practice in and learning a few new songs and then looki for gigs.
Any instrumentalists out there ie; fiddle, mandolin, sittern etc that would like to try some collaboration drop me a line.

Cheers

Royal Oak gig
Ian on 10/22/2008 at 10:25pm (UTC)
I was asked to stand in for Calum in the Royal Oak last Saturday and again this Saturday for the afternoon session.

This is a good little session where there are a few regulars that come along and support Calum. I had great fun last week and hoping for more of the same this week.

If you are around drop in for a listen or to perform.

Cheers

Changed
Ian on 10/13/2008 at 11:35pm (UTC)
It has been a long time since I made an entry on this page. This is due to the unexpected events that have occurred over the last few months.

In June I had managed to set up gigs for the summer season, mainly in Salou, Spain, at least that's what I believed. However after being badly let down by a couple of people the gigs that were arranged did not happen. This was a major disappointment as by then it was too late to obtain enough to carry me through the summer. Jackie and I had to make a very difficult decision on what we should do as it was highly unlikely that we could stay on in our apartment.
After a trip back to the UK to sort out some financial business we agreed that we would have to leave Spain.

We decided to head for Holland and check out a few things there, however things proved to be more difficult than expected so eventually we returned home to Edinburgh arriving early August.

Since then I have managed a few gigs but the main concern was finding work and getting settled back into our flat.

I am looking at getting some new material together and maybe trying to write some more of my own songs and then I will be touting for some gigs.

As well as my solo work I have a couple of collaberations in the pipeline. I have resurrected Idle Beggars with Martin Boland, and also am in talks with a fantastic Acoustic guitarist, Callum MacMillan, about possible work.

Updates will be regular once again.

Cheers and best wishes to all out there

Ian
